As long as heading that way... try getting off 79 at Winfield, go up Hwy 47 a couple of miles to E (R), continue to Y (L) to W (R). At Payneville, go left at H, to Eolia and turn right on D, which will take you back to 79 at Louisana. WAY more fun than 79.

For breakfast you can stop at the Eagle's Nest B&B at 79 and Georgia, (fantastic but pricey), or cross the river into IL on 54 to the Atlas Cafe, (okay if you're adventurous, but bring a fly swatter).

From there head down 96 to Mozier. At this point 96 turns left and runs into 100 at Kampsville. Continue straight on some real backroads, (no signs here but I think it's called the South Mississippi River Road), to Golden Eagle. Take the ferry across the river and you will be back in St. Charles County! Cool huh?

I'm pretty new to the area, live in Belleville but my son lives in Festus,

Thanks for the great southern rides, looks like it won't be long until I can try some of them out.

I do love the ride up the IL side of the river from Belleville to Hannibal and then back down thru Louisiana.
